Decorating a New House for Christmas

Before we got married, I had a 3-foot Christmas tree in my room. Our first Christmas together in our apartment, we were given a hand-me-down tree from my in-laws. Then when we moved into the Pelham House we bought a bigger tree. Most of our holiday decorations were gotten for specific uses in the Pelham House, which had an expansive mantle and built-in shelves.

We have yet to put a nail in the wall since building this house and our mantle is smaller, so trying to figure out where decorations go in the new place was fun.

We put our big tree in the main family, the middle-sized tree in the formal living room and my short tree in the office loft. And scattered decorations around various places.

Here’s a brief tour:

Outside is minimally decorated
Just inside the door is the living room tree
The front hall has a little vintage flair
The mantle
The tall tree in the main family room
Our Cypress got a little festive too
Lit up the soffits too
Finally, our mini tree in the loft/office

I like incorporating ribbon into Christmas decorating and plan to do more with that next year.

What’s your favorite thing about holiday decorating?
